Show Streets named after Utah polygamists Dear Editor If you did not read the May 26 issue of the Horizon you missed a controversial sial but excellent letter to the editor The point of the author Connie Anast Avast was this Why has the attempt to rename South after Martin Luther King Jr met such strong opposition while the West Valley Highway was renamed Bangerter Highway at the drop of a hat Anast points out that former governor gover gover- nor Bangerter was less than perfect especially in his ability to meet the needs of the many residents of West Valley where Bangerter Highway is lo lo- located sated ted who lost their jobs at ti during his administration The reason most opponents give for not wanting to name a street after Dr King is that he was a womanizer This unfounded claim is oft-given oft by King critics But Utah detractors who say that our streets shouldn't be renamed after a person person person per per- son accused of promiscuity may rethink their stance if they read another citizens citizen's opinion written by St. St George resident R. R Clayton Huntsman that was published in the June 7 Salt Lake Tribune An excerpt from Mr Huntsman barb Accordingly I would propose that we rename the following places so that Utah will not risk being stuck with a womanizing image Heber City Brigham City Parleys Parley's Canyon Smith- Smith field These locations happened to be named after polygamist men Charles B.
