Show HORIZON EDITORIAL I Leaders must be ethical new Exe Executive Council and THE the soon to be appointed senators CAB members and and Horizon staff should take a lesson from the experiences of leaders past and present Those who put themselves into leadership positions either by being elected or by applying and above all P else have a responsibility to be ethi ethi- cal Students in leadership positions can never compromise the trust that they have taken upon ves They must be beyond reproach when it comes to issues that deal with their integrity or honesty Personal Personal Personal Per Per- friends or feelings cannot cause exceptions when it comes to decisions made while in positions of public responsibility Part of leadership is having the trust of those who are leading Few people are willing to follow individuals individuals individuals in in- they dont don't trust Leaders will make mistakes Mistakes Mistakes Mistakes' Mistakes Mistakes' Mis Mis- takes takes' are are expected and nd even accepted accepted accepted ac ac- but those must not be ethical ethical ethical ethi ethi- cal breaches Mistakes Mistakes' and breaking ethical codes are re not the same Examples from the past year are easy to identify Former Student Senator Nathan Allington was asked to resign for lapses of conduct while in his position Former Horizon Managing Editor Dean Cruff Gruff and other former staff members were under extreme pressure for their lapse of moral judgment To those newly elected and to those soon to be appointed Horizon urges you to be a true leader by having and using un- un reproachable ethics in your position of responsibility |
