| Show Wh When en Medicaid M e d- d dd leal d u f fails a I I s t Ji Margo Pool Contributing Writer T THERE HERE are people in this world who depend upon the auspices of oJ the United for funding in the way of food stamps medical assistance and financial financial financial finan finan- cial support Without these methods of assi assistance tance people in need are unable to receive the medical assistance they may need whether it is physical physical physical cal calor or of a psychological na na- na- na ture They would also end up going without food and shelter Many if not all would end up in the street I am one of these who is in need of the governments government's assis assis- tance I have had difficulty finding employment nt and when I do find it 1 I end up losing it due to my health and emotions It is due to this that I ended up on Medicaid and nd Social Social So So- cial Security six years ago It was in the middle of May that I received a letter from theOffice theOffice the theOffice Office of of Family Support Health and Human Services and was informed that my case would be closed effective May 31 1992 due to an incomplete review As it turned out I had neglected to send one sheet in and so they were t taking king me off food stamps and Medicaid Altho Although gh the papers had lad be been n sent in mid-April mid I 1 w was s snot not informed that hatJI I was to be betaken betaken betaken taken off of them until two weeks before the deadline date I 1 went to my therapist and he gave me more prescriptions so I could get some medicine on the May Medicaid card to last me another month However However However How How- ever due to ruI rulings of the government I was unable to receive the medicine I am most in need of since I had it refilled in May It appears that Medicaid will only pay for medication one month at a time In the meantime I went on half dosages of all my medicines to try and make them last as long as possible I didn't dare stop taking them al al- al together as I 1 cant can't risk seizures or the emotional problems I would have if I 1 did However three thre days after I I. I stopped th the full dose I was having problems not only with my epil epilepsy but butt with my chemical balance and emotions Finally 1 was able to get into into in into to see my case worker and I l informed informed informed in in- formed her of the situation I Iam Iam Iam am in She went ov over r my papers and said that she would reinstate me for Medicaid and food stamps for another year On June 2 I received confirmation confirmation confirmation confirma confirma- tion of this through the mail ail Now I am back on full dosages but going on half doses for a afew afew afew few days has had its effect I 1 arri ani still having problems emotionally emotionally emotionally emotion emotion- ally and chemically It will take a few days for me to get back back to to where I was before this all hap hap- I wish the government would get their paperwork straightened around and inform inform inform in in- form the people early on so they could get matters corrected cor cor- corrected earlier |
