Show The Sharpened Point t By Kimbal Ingram Before moving on to this weeks week's column a clarification is needed to the apathy column of two issues ago Even though the feelings are real that people need to take active active ac ac- tive participation in what effects them directly the provocative words used were used for that reason alone to provoke to see if anyone would be incensed enough to respond There was only one negative response received at the paper After consultation with an advisor it was decided there may have been further mitigating reasons as asto asto asto to why there were no further responses that quite a few of our students are so busy with their lives that no matter how upset they may maybe maybe maybe be positive responses are always rare no matter what the subject there are more important things to do Even though there were more positive responses than negative received verbally at the paper I ask that the students understand the intent of the column not the words In last weeks week's issue there was a aletter aletter aletter letter to the editor against the apathy column I must apologize for the response I gave for it was unprofessional The only reason was that the letter mentioned the being self-righteous self in addition addition addition addi addi- tion to myself The staff had nothing to do with my column and should not have been mentioned No matter how appropriate such sucha a response may seem to print it was wrong and I apologize to Jean H Holyoak for that response It is now the Valentine season and love is in bloom Our feature editor was recently married married a pair of friends of mine became engaged after a whirlwind three week dating spree and my wife and I are soon approaching the first anniversary of our first date The memories of those early years in grade school when every student walked around and placed Valentines in iii the sacks attached to the backs of th the chairs are easily recalled It wasn't until later that I l found out how devastating the Valentine season could be During the high school years valentines were meant for a one and only and those who didn't have a one were the who didn't get a valen valen- tine It was almost as depressing a time as a lonely Christmas would be Now Im I'm curious what happens in the college world Will there still be lonely I hope not For that someone special there are birthdays birthdays birthdays bir bir- bir- bir Christmas and even more fun and meaningful just just any any day in particular For Valentines Valentine's Day use it as a aday aday aday day of affection not just love Show appreciation to your friends for the help they gave to the fellow workers who give valuable assistance and perhaps to just anyone in general You never know what kind of happiness you might give Everyone deserves a valentine simply because everyone deserves some love 1 O y L i q j oJ I 5 S 1 4 4 fo J j i it r. c t k so gt g- g t l Itt t L L'S t r j 4 J 1 Jf S 'S J I f c If 1 I |
