Show Time is short for leukemia victim Nicki Boodrookas Contributing Writer FTER weeks of bureaucratic turmoil turmoil turmoil tur tur- AFTER A moil Jane Ann Lee former student has received word that Medicaid will indeed pay for her much needed bone marrow transplant Lee was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in October of 1990 Since that time she and her daughter Stevie have been on a roller coaster ride through the bureaucratic red tape which envelopes people who do not have insurance or money to pay their medical expenses The latest hurdle though now in the past occurred four days after Medicaid had agreed to pay for Lees Lee's transplant Lee said that Medicaid called to inform her that unless the transplant was done by July 1 they would n not t pay for it due to recent budget cuts She added that on the July 1 deadline Medicaid will implement a policy which will prohibit coverage of bone marrow transplants for patients over twenty one years of age Yet due to a federal ruling acquired by Lee Medicaid will be forced to honor their original agreement and pay for her transplant Though L Lee e n remains in the chronic stage of her illness entry into an acute stage would prevent the transplant al al- al together Time is slipping by and unless a donor is found and an additional is raised to pay for the harvesting harvesting harvesting harvest harvest- ing of the bone marrow Lee will not see many tomorrows According to Lee a donor is in the final stages of testing In fact th this s potential donor has matched all six of Lees Lee's antigens Only one test remains Lees Lee's blood must be mixed with the potential donors donor's in order to establish compatibility Lees Lee's doctor says that the odds of a match even at this point are still only about fifty I III hear my clock ticking all the time and the hardest part is waiting g II said Lee but my limy support system has been terrific especially the people from my church There will be PC an auction to raise money for Lee at the thc Salt Lake Christian Center Wednesday May 22 at pm p.m. Those interested in making donations donations donations dona dona- please mail them to The JAL Fund P.
