Show Set my paper free Dear Editor Im I'm glad to hear that the Horizon newspaper will soon be free of the executive councils council's control I do not feel any newspaper should Decontrolled De be controlled especially by political officials Although I do have to commend the council this quarter in their leniency to let the paper print just about anything they wanted to How However ver I feel better knowing that the student body will be able to read all newsworthy articles and not wonder about what is and is not being censored I realize the council feels the Horizon has not been fair to them Give the Horizon staff a break There is not much that goes on at worth hearing about much less printing They are just trying to do their job ob and give the students and staff staff staffa a readable newspaper Honestly Honest Honest- ly I do not think anyone wants to read about what a great job the council is doing The tru truth th is people e in general want to read about what is going wrong not what is going right Maybe Maybethe the executive council should hire their own newspaper staff put out their own paper and nd see how many people pick it up Then maybe they would wake up and smell the coffee They should realize when they take on the responsibility of being a public official they also take on the responsibility of being in the public eye The executive council needs to grow up This is the real world Rachelle Patience Book swap confusion Dear Editor At the end of winter quarter I decided to try to sell my books through the book swap The book swap is a good thing and I am glad that we weh h have ve it It gives students the opportunity to sell their books for a good price donate a portion of the selling selling selling sell sell- ing price to what I hope are worthwhile charitable endeavors endeavors endeavors en en- deavors and most appealing to me avoid standing in line for the better part of a day trying to sell books back to the bookstore The bookstore cannot al always always always al- al ways buy every book and last spring when I tried to sell back a new brand-new history text it was refused due to the fact that the particular course was not being offered again until fall I was not able to get back to school until the following winter block the one we just com completed and I was once again told several weeks ago that the bookstore absolutely would not buy back this book at the end of winter quarter something that I could not hot understand since the course was being taught in in inthe the spring So I attempted to sell the book at the book swap along with my other books It was there that I was told that this history book was outdated but that the bookstore would buy it from me for a 2 recycling recycling recycling recy recy- cling price Only one of my three remaining books sold at the book swap and since I did not want to venture back to the college on the I was through with finals I decided to try my luck at the bookstore buy When it was finally my turn I mentioned what I had been told about the recycling price 2 is after all 2 I 1 Iwas Iwas was asked where I got this information information information in in- formation as it was simply not true I also explained my predicament a perfectly good book not being of any use any more to anyone least of all meIn producing the book I was told that yes the bookstore was buying back that particular book and no it was certainly not outdated at which point I cheerfully accepted payment for all three books Is it possible for the book r swap and the bookstore to get together so that there is less confusion next time My day ended quite well but my guess is that there are still a alot alot alot lot of upset misinformed students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents who would appreciate it if things were a little less confused Kelly Riddle |
