Show C. C Kinder gentler smoking solution Dear Editor I would like to write in regards to a letter to the editor written Oct 17 by Alyce Martinez I too am ama a smoker non-smoker and really just believe that people are hurting themselves by smoking I just really think that if she wants to get her point across without offending people she should approach it differently I was very turned off by her letter Even Eyen though she was saying things that made a lot o of sense the way she came across was very demanding and ob ob- ob- ob noxious I would have listened to her letter more closely if she were more assertive and less aggressive on the subject I felt that she wouldn't consider another point of view even if it was offered Her approach to the subject seemed minded closed-minded with no room for comment I I believe that the officials should leave the dining room open longer for the non I also think the dining room is nicer than the cafeteria anyway Theres There's something to be grateful for It is somewhat more quiet but there is room for conversation as on the other side I have noticed in restaurants restaurants that the smoking side usually is a little louder than the smoking non-smoking side so maybe smokers are more fun than non I haven't noticed there to be an air of library on the dining room side as she suggested I feel that I can go to the dining room and act the same as if I were in the cafeteria I understand her point of not feeling like we wethe the he smokers non have freedom from smoke I noticed that in the cafeteria there ar are arc eight tables that are smoking non but it wouldn't matter anyway because because because be be- cause you can see a cloud of smoke covering the whole room Another angle is that there are more places on cam campus pus not to smoke than there are to smoke such as in the study areas by the financial aide offices in inthe inthe inthe the lobbies of the Tech Building and the libraries We even ought to be grateful that they dont don't smoke e ein in class It could be better but it could be a wh whole le lot worse too The fact of the matter is that there are always going to be smokers in this world I understand that that- it seems that we may b be discriminated against but then things change slowly They have changed the procedures in the state operated offices to accommodate accommodate the smoker non-smoker and if you look around you will see that things are changing in our favor all the time It just isn't happening very fast so sit back and relax Darian Huntsman |
