Show 1 1 y t Faye Jensen goes over reports with a management hopeful S SQ Q 1 HOC L 0 I G GIn In December 1975 Verlaine Lito responded to a need Deseret Pharmaceutical realized that the best best- people for upcoming management positions were their own mostly women Ms Lito interviewed many people to teach a classon class on wom women women in management she f found best bet t to be Faye Jensen who had helped her and who was already a Skill Center counselor This class was then born and is now offered as a night school class here at on Tuesday nights When it first started it was funded by Deseret and other companies who found that the untapped resource of the woman was a valuable asset Often Of ten team taught by Ms Jensen and another instructor Ms Lorraine Olsen this class is offered to all employees male and female who wish to learn management skills that will upgrade their position and salary as the need for skilled man managers gers arise Ms Jensen and Ms Olsen have given their knowledge to Mountain Bell Tooele Army Depot and Deseret Pharmaceutical just to mention a fe few The nig night t class here at is S composed mainly of working women who wish to learn management skins skills but also has a young m man n in it The class's main concern this quarter is supervisory skills leadership planning and fundamentals of teamwork They also stress the solutions to special problems related to women in management Perhaps the toughest problem a woman faces is delegating duties to male maJe counterparts without alienating them em toward herself because Tj p l J 5 r f N 4 a M M MLorraine Lorraine Olsen discusses management seminar with a student The program although aimed at women is excellent excellent excel excel- lent for anyone in management she is a woman who is a peer or superior Decision making on a management level is also discussed Once learned these skills help the woman in management to be a good manager But what about those of us who arent aren't managers but would like to tobe tobe tobe be These problems are discussed and worked on also Ms Jensen who is teaching the class here utilizes tapes books and any other sources she can to help women meet the standards required by employers to become managers She tries to develop communication skills and helps today's woman realize her potential potential-as as a supervisor Ms Jensen seems to relate well to these subjects She and her sister run a ranch which has always been n a mans job They run a spread with beef cattle on it and in their spare time run a hay baling business Having been raised on a ranch helped but the biggest help was Fayes Faye's managerial skills which made their business venture a success Ms Jensen dropped out of college in her first quarter because she just wasn't ready but later went back part time to get her degree This makes her particularly responsive to the needs of women who go to college but have families business and other responsibilities to meet Women in Management has met with great success Wendy personnel department of Deseret Pharmaceutical says I think you did an excellent job not only because you got the message of the topic across but because of the informal way you communicated with us In Inan Inan Inan an ex extremely m ly c complimentary letter Pres Nelson P Peter ter G. G Burbles Colonel and the C Commanding Tooele Army Depot said I want to thank you for their superb presentation and to encourage you to allow such off training to be extended to those who are not able to enroll formally at the college After reading the student evaluations of th the Loff off campus training sessions I found most women enjoyed the sessions and that it gave them a better look at what was expected of them as managers While gathering material for this article I sat in on a class and talked to its members I have become enthusiastic about it This is a t terrific class for both women and men We need to know what to expect from the business world when we re-enter re it or go out for the first time Many of the management students cannot go to night school because of conflict with work or home I would like to suggest that if you like the sounds of this class ask why it cant can't be brought days also We need to be taught these skills during the during the day We deserve the benefit of this class In the future as grows and trains more business people this type of a class will be invaluable to toI I us Y Youre You're missing a tool of trade by not having this class Can you really afford it |
