Show To Add Two New Classes In The k g i 1987 F Fall a 11 Q Quarter j jf f 3 i by y Tami Tam Silvester f. f Much Ado About Nothing Not this time Though some students may have t- t thought h that the name ch change was in in name only has forged ahead with its new image by broadening the schools school's curriculum t Two new theatre courses will to the fall quarter line They are Basic Acting and Survey of th the Theatre Th These courses are offered by theE the E School of Continuing Community Education and may count as an elective X credit towards an AA degree They also meet th the Liberal Education requirements requirements requirements require- require ments for students who wish to transfer their credits to the University of Utah Ut h. h i The courses will be taught by Pasquali Ferrari who holds a P PHD HD in Theatre Theatres s bY Arts Dr Ferrari has also written and directed numerous plays at the U. U of U. U Basic Acting is an introduction to the fundamentals of acting on a performance performance 7 mance level Students will participate and observe in classroom assignments ranging from pantomime to improvisation n. n Emphasis is placed on discipline and developing a students student's own unique style of acting Ferrari emphasized that the class is designed to accommodate both the beginning student to the more advanced d Survey of Theatre is a survey of Western Theatre from Ancient Theatre to Contemporary Theatre The class will look at how plays and historical events have shaped theatre as we know it now This class is highly recommended for non-majors non who wish to develop theatrical appreciation rather than practical applications of the art What does Dr Ferrai think the future holds for the performing arts at We will be planting a seed Fall Quarter This seed may eventually grow to the point that will one day have a complete Theatre Arts department If the classes generate enough interest the school has discussed offering an Associates of Theatre Arts degree As he spoke of some of his main goals for his classes he said I think it is ismore ismore ismore more important to develop good human beings beings' rather than focusing on making a student a good actor I believe that by y taking my class a student can learn new and exciting things about himself Even if he never acts another day in his life hell he'll be able to take some of the basic concepts that I teach and put them to use when dealing with the world around him whether it be in the work place or orin orin orin in his personal relationships Ferrari hopes that as interest grows the opportunity for students to perform in plays sponsored by the school will become a reality These productions will draw not only from the schools but from the community surrounding us I feel we h have ve the talent here on campus and in the community to present rate first-rate pro productions states Ferrari The talent is here Now all we need to do is to tap it and discipline it Mr Ferrari would like to hear from students who may be interested in taking either of his classes this fall quarter For more information contact Tami Silvester at 2037 or Pasquali Ferrari at |
