Show if t 1 I Campus C Recount I Student Senators Work To Complete Agenda t. t s r by Susan Stan Schreiner a aThe The Student Senate met Jan 14 to begin Winter quarter with an agenda full of items to discuss Three representatives from Circle K International Grant Smart instructor at and Li Linda da Miller Activities Vice-President Vice all ll spoke to the senate Bob Sperry Regional Governor Jeff Jones Lieutenant Governor and Elwood Blank former Advisor all aU took a few minutes to speak to the senate about the need to reorganize and reactivate Circle K on the campus In the past has received awards for s successful service projects arid fund raising events vents This year new student leaders leaders are are needed Circle K is a branch of the Kiwanis is service oriented and strives to serve the needs of students and the community The emphasis is on Campus beautification needs of the handicapped orphans the elderly and juvenile delinquents Any student interested in being a part of Circle K is encouraged to contact Jerry in the Student Government offices A new faculty advisor is also needed Circle K hopes to be organized by February Grant Smart spoke to the group about lobbying As the legislature now meets there are several issues being presented that directly effect The senate is part of the Utah Student Lobby that is organized to contact state legislators about issues that effect students Sm Smart rt informed the senate that a lobbyist is admittedly biased and a actively works to change or not change governments ideas A lobbyist has a moral and ethical obligation to always be honest Legislators are busy people and will listen to an informed lobbyist so dont don't waste their time Smart advised A lobbyist may write letters send telegrams make phone calls talk to secretaries or administrative assistants and talk to a legislator in person There are many ways to approach them but a lobbyist must be up-to-date up and be prepared first Lobbying can be exciting and a lucrative career or a valuable school experience If any students are interested in being a part of the lobbyist effort contact Brenda in the Student Government offices Linda Miller asked the senators to support the Special Olympics All Al Night dance on Jan 25 She stated that she still needs lots of h help Ip to make this years year's dance a success Student help and support will be appreciated This dance is part of a wide state-wide college effort All the colleges and universities will hold a dance the same night and need the support of the stu students and andr community |
