N ew G Gym i e 1 Id i J Holds H O S I by Troy Porter Journalism 1011 Several events have taken place inthe in inthe inthe the program over the thelast thelast thelast last few weeks Many of these events are going on-going but some some of the results are in Two events vents were recently held in inthe inthe the new gymnasium The first event was the hot shot competition held on April 22 Here participants w were re given one minute to sh shoot from certain designated spots on the floor loor f marked with different point values They accumulated accumulated accumulated ac ac- ac- ac cumulated points based on their suc suc- cess The winners were Chris Knowles in first pl place ce with 42 points Sam finished in second with 34 Mike Atkinson placed third Joe Nunes was fourth and Aaron Daly came in fifth The second event also held in the new gym was a free throw compe compe- The contest was a best of 20 shots Chris Knowles was again the winner as he sunk 18 of 20 shots from the foul line Scott Douglass won the wheelchair division by hitting 15 out of 20 from the charity stripe Joy Kelson won the women's division with 9 of 20 Intramural program director Dennis McGarvey said that Paul Tuttle is still undefeated in the tennis tournament The tournament includes players from the U. U of Utah Tuttle won this tournament last year McGarvey mentioned that a asp sp sportsman of the year award will be given at the awards banquet on May 26 This year nominees are Bart Williams Ronny Scott McKay Reese Mike Crawford and Mark The sportsman of the year award is not necessarily for the best athlete explained McGarvey The athletes are mainly rated by participation sportsmanship and ability The results of more intramural events will be appearing as as spring ng quarter continues to wind d down wn |
