Show Spotlight Profile Frankie Ford Cooperative tive Education Director for forthe forthe the Business Division at Utah Technical College is working this quarter with over 60 students who are earning school credit for the on-the-job training Her office located in the Rampton Rampton Rampton Ramp- Ramp ton Technology Building inthe in inthe the north front entrance is busy most of her working day Appointments are necessary because of her active schedule Ford is from Salt Lake City Utah She graduated from East High School earning her BA degree at Utah State in business and office administration with a Masters Master's degree in market market- ing Following college Ford worked in her fathers father's tire business after which she went to San Francisco California where she was accepted by United Air AirLines AirLines AirLines Lines as a sales management management management manage manage- ment trainee This work experience enabled her to travel extensively in Europe Europe Europe Eur Eur- ope Australia the Orient and throughout the United States Ford left her job with United United United Uni Uni- ted to come to Utah Tech because of the opportunity and the challenge to teach Ford teaches Career Planning Planning Planning Plan Plan- ning classes where job seeking skills are taught with witt ne necessary necessary ess ry written tools of the job search a program she developed for A Career Center is isFord's isFord's isFord's Fords Ford's Soap box Project Here students can get counseling testing classes class class- es placement and job exploration About two years after joining the staff at Utah Tech Frankie Ford started a fashion show company compan called Frankie Ford Pro Pro- Shows were given at hotels country clubs malls private clubs and ski resorts Two years later she started a l shop called Ms McCoys located at Ivy Place where Ford did her own buying promotion and business management After 2 2 years with the economy slowing down and Fords Ford's very busy schedule schedule schedule dule with school she sold the stock and cl closed sed the doors She ended with a avery avery avery very large wardrobe of clothes by Arlene Thayne Frankie Fords Ford's business adventure led her to start classes in Fashion Merchandising Merchandising Merchandising Mer Mer- and business marketing at Utah Tech She still gives fashion shows One of the more recent was Tuesday Nov 2 1982 a Sunset Sports Fashion Fashion Fash- Fash ion Ton show at the Widow McCoys owned by her sister Last spring Ford received a leave of absence from Utah Tech She had always dreamed of working on a Cruise Ship and worked up a resume found a good goodship goodship goodship ship and had an interview Frankie Ford was hired immediately The ship an Italian liner took her to Mexico Panama Canal and to the in the spring and Canada and Alaska during the summer In this job she shehand shehand shehand hand typed thousands of names working seven to twelve hours every day She handled complaints questions and a little of everything While Frankie Ford was traveling on the cruise ship she leased her home Upon returning earlier than the year she had planned on she had no place to go and andis is now leasing an apart apart- ment Ford after only six months The work wasn't what she had expected expected ex ex- pe ed It was wa not the love loye boat I J was Gophers go for forand forand forand and had five Italian bosses Traveling is one of Fords' Fords hobbies and she hopes to todo todo todo do more She also likes interior design Frankie Ford drives a silver silver silver sil sil- sil- sil ver Corvette and has been known to park in some strange parking places One of the most amusing incidents that occurred to her as a result of this happened happened happened hap hap- two years ago Utah Tech had open parking Often there was no place for Ford to park and being an instructor she needed to be in class on time She would solve this by parking anywhere she could fit her Corvette As a result she received numerous citations citations citations cita cita- which she forgot about She finally received a summons from the Justice Justice Justice Jus Jus- tice of the Peace Judge Bernard Frankie Ford went to court dressed sharply and parked her car where the Judge could see it The Judge was not impressed Frankie Ford pleaded not guilty He was going to throw her in jail The Judge fined her a sizeable amount and said that will teach you Miss Ford you cannot park your Corvette where ever you want |
