Show Animal ; ordinance V split vote . CENTERVILLEX- A new animal control ordinance, which , complies with the Davis County '.; ordinance, was adopted by the city ': council at its regular meeting. The city was asked to adopt the ordinance after it joined the coun-tywide coun-tywide animal-control program. Councilman Bruce Erickson, who opposed adopting the mea-sure, mea-sure, disagreed with the "fresh pursuit" section of the ordinance. This section gives an animal-control animal-control officer, authorized agent or deputy legal authority to enter a private residence if in fresh pursuit of an animal. "I don't think an officer has the : right to enter a building if he is in -pursuit," Mr. Erickson said. -"That entire section fringes on '. constitutional rights." Glen Taylor, Animal Control Director, said such a situation would rarely occur. But the section , was designed to give officers the right to enter private property if an animal is being neglected or abused. The council approved the ordinance ordi-nance on a 3-2 vote with Councilman Council-man Doug Nielsen also opposing the ordinance. |
