Show cleanup clean up week may 16 to 23 the civic committee wish to remind re mind the townspeople of the cleanup clean up day As stated in last weeks paper special alcan up week is from may 16 to 23 with the overall cleanup clean up ending august 1 trucks will be available at the cemetery on the and again on the to pick up the trash prizes izes will be 1000 for the first and nd for second prize in in the two groups one for having the most beautiful premises and the other for making the greatest improvement all premises will be inspected prior to t 0 the and after the conclusion of the drive judges are oris rudd bilma krumm and susan jameson J ame while on the subject of cleanup the matter of the old pioneer I 1 building dui idin g has been brought up several sev r a 1 people have been contacted on the subject and there is a difference of opinion on what should be done with the building first it seems to be the general opinion that it should be torn down for the following reasons it is not th the original building it would cost t in the neighborhood of or to modernize it then again comes the question so some want it modernized and som some want it left with walls as are several of the older ladies remember working there for days plastering lining with factory planting shrubs and spen spending days watering them and now it is in a state of ruin it is the understanding that the D U P were given permission to move the building on the lot where it now stands if they would fix it up the other group want it restored as a matter of sentiment say they want the coming generation to have preserved some of the history of the past and the old log cabin will have past out of the picture in the next few years they will never know what it is and only this way will they know how their forefathers lived apostle bennion states that when taking tourists through the temple grounds he first shows them the temple then he takes them to the little cabin in the corner which is as it was when the pioneers lived there the group further state there is no place in the state ot of utah with a richer heritage than monticello and that we will have missed a lot it if we do not preserve one of these old cabins it is the suggestion of some of the DUP members that a plaque be placed on the site and that a small park be made possibly with a grill and small picnic ground and that it be made a place of beauty |
