Show so B BLANDING L A D ING 00 basketball SEASON FOR BLANDING M MEN TO OPEN SOON friday nov 27 the basketball seison season for the blanding M men will open with a game with the spanish fork M men of the ath ward wednesday dec 2 the blanding M men will play ft lewis college team of hesperus colo both games will be played in the new recreation hall beginning at 8 p in m admission will be 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students there will be a preliminary game each evening at the blanding M men made a name for themselves last year when they chev won the all church consolation championship many of the same men are playing on the team this year and they hope to make more records BLANDING HAS recreation LEAGUE EACH THURSDAY NIGHT six basketball teams have been organized from the men old and young in the blanding and grayson wards and they play three games each thursday night the tournament was planned to afford recreation for the men who are not interested or eligible to play M men basketball the basketball games will be followed by a volley ball tournament later in the year they have been sponsored and arranged by the ward Mutu als everyone is invited to attend the games it is rather interesting mr alexander says to watch the older fellows trying to act like kids again GRAYSON WARD BISHOPRIC reorganized AT SACRAMENT MEETING SUNDAY EVENING at impressive services sunday evening the grayson ward bishopric was reorganized president leland W redd officiated during the change bishop william ervin palmer with I 1 counselors parley hurst and I 1 vincent redd were released and kline klinc black with counselors francis david bud nielson and kenneth mcdonald were sustained bishop palmer and his counselors have served the grayson ward since its organization mar 24 1946 when the blanding ward was divided to make the blanding and grayson wards for several years bea before ore the division bishop palmer worked first as ward clerk and then as second counselor to bishop john D rogers william laws will continue as ward clerk for the new bishop ric ic MRS LYMAN REDD IN automobile ACCIDENT IN california parents of lyman and lavae redd mr and mrs J wiley redd and mr and mrs lawrence wright received a phone call from lyman friday to say that lavae had been in an automobile accident she was going from their home at holtville Holt ville to el centro centre for a dental appointment when the car she was driving was bumped in the side by a fellow driving a pickup she received receive d bumps and bruises and that evening was taken to the hospital saturday at noon her premature baby boy was born and lived until about 10 p in sunday morning mr and mrs bob redd left blanding to take mr and mrs wiley redd and ucille lucille wright to california SPORTSMEN TO HAVE TURKEY SHOOT SATURDAY NOV at 1 P M at a meeting of the sportsmen monday evening at the legion hall a turkey shoot was planned for saturday afternoon nov at I 1 p in anyone who wants to shoot is eligible for the shooting there will be 20 turkeys and the shooting will last as long as the turkeys do there will be chickens for the young fellows to shoot for in the evening the fun will continue american legion wives who sponsored the bake sale last saturday report that it was very successful they were sold out in a hurry they cleared 87 and are very grateful to all those who contributed to society of utah and came from salt lake city he explained the fallacy of the 20 2020 20 vision test and told that vision is learned children are not born with seeing skills but have to learn them as they do other thin things g in the same way visual de defects f et are learned or acquired according to dr bagley he explained the importance of good lighting and good posture he says never to read under a floor lamp without the light in the middle of the room as well wel children should never read lying on their backs or dr ray hay witt from spanish fork accompanied dr bagley and assisted with a film that illustrated the lescure let cure mrs emily redd was in in charge of the meeting A count of parents from the high school and grade school showed that the grade had a majority of parents present A large crowd attended NEW BRIDGE AT MEXICAN HAT IN BUILDING PROCESS the steel workers are very busy on the bridge at mexican hat the present time it is located just a few feet east of the old bridge the large crane that is is lifting the steel around has lifted the truck from the river the past week and it is lying on the bank A salt lake company is doing the work mrs alice young of blanding is cooking for the construction crew at the mexican hat cafe at the present time ruth palmer her daughters virginia and geniveve and viola sipe made a trip to cortez and grand junction saturday mrs sipe stayed in cortez and visited with her daughter mrs jennie lee larsen and family and the palmer family went on to durango and did some shopping fifteen members of the black family were at the train to see sec ramon off wednesday afternoon at six missionaries went to the east central states with him but the whole train car was filled with missionaries going to the east frank wright has put a new roof on the weather station the past week he is also in the process of remodeling his home he has added two rooms on the west and is installing a furnace this week the addition is making a wonderful improvement in the appearance of his home earl wright is also adding two rooms on the south of his home his plans will include the enlarging of his livin living room and a new
