Show A gordn of the different sections of the great sanjuan san juan editors note the following article is a reprint from the december 26 1929 isue issue of the san juan record the article we feel is worth the time and effort to reprint BLANDING UTAH BLANDING the arhe beautiful town of blanding is located at the north extremity of what is known as white mesa Mes anear near the southern slope of the blue mountains it itis the largest town in the country its residents being composed i mostly of stock men whose flocks and herds roam the thousand hills and the wealth from which has made it possible for them to build beautiful modern residences and business establishments the town is laid out in five acre plots and the homes ire are surrounded with luxuriant orchards and vineyards vin yards giving it the appearance of a true arcadia from here an improved auto road joad brah branches ches to the west leading over the beautiful elk ridge to the tamed famed natural bridges which have attracted the most famed travelers of the world and to the south it a road leads to the bonu ment valley and the navajo indian reservation the town is surrounded by some acres of fertil mesa land adaptable to tide the raising of every kind of fruit and vegetable known to the temperate zone and its situation with the lower desert stretches to the south give it a climate unsurpassed pa ased in equable temperature so desirable to the all these advantages have brought social advantages equally desirable the town boasts a modern modem high school building a recreation hall and community center surpassing those of most of the towns of the state of several times the population with facilities for religious worship as good as the best to add to the surrounding 1 farm possibilities ample am pie canal I 1 facilities exist which bring the mountain waters to the fertile plains and efforts are now reaching consummation which will further increase the irrigation water supply through the driving of a mile tunnel to tap waters from indian creek and I 1 I 1 bring it to the plains further extending the intensive farm land and garden facilities it to the traveller the town offers a stopping place from where side trips can be made to prehistoric ruins of unusual interest to stupendous scenic wonders in the form of crags and canyons and more diver 1 sifted sculpturing of nature I 1 than could be told of in volumes besides the outstanding features of the trip to the natural bridges with the amazing scenic features along the way |
