Show it comes as quite a shock and surprise that there are people in monticello who are now at this late date appos opposing sing the sewer with vigor it is even more surprising that some ome of these people were just as vigorous in advocating the sewer in the first place seeming to realize that it wasa decided step forward for the community supporting it the way they were one would have assumed that they had already made themselves familiar with all the details of the project and what would be involved for the taxpayer but it seems that it is not so As nearly as can be discovered the thing that makes for this opposition is a clause in the application which states that if ewer char charger geso either for the connection or for the regular service beca become re 50 60 days delinquent it bee become ornes a 11 lien on the property until it is paid and that in this event the service too together ether with lights and water will be discontinued this is no reason for a thinking thanking person to be afraid because any charges whether for county or city taxes or for utility service of any kind become a lien on the property if not paid and to object to it is tantamount to admitting that we expect to become delinquent when we see the publicity that was given the sewer and the real effort to see that the public was informed through mass meetings handbills hand bills newspaper and other means it is difficult to conceive of any person with a real interest in the community or even with an interest in only his privately owned property in the community not having realized just what he was voting for when he voted june 16 for the three issues that make construction of the sewer possible le mr gibbs who has been the prime factor in the financial arrangements made it very clear that if the sewer were in installed that it would be a cold blooded business proposition and that if payments were not made on schedule bould be discontinued lie also faid that it would involve every parcel of property within the city limits if this was not understood by everyone il must be because they did not show enough interest to attend the meeting there have been several articles in the paper explaining in detail just what the project would involve and to what extent it would obligate the taxpayer the city ordin ordinance ante approving the project the general obligation bond and the revenue bond were all voted in by a large majority mak rity of the qualified voters of the town of monticello it would be impossible for the town to grow much more without a sewer it is definitely a factor for growth of the community loot let us all recognize it as such swallow any personal feelings and support it because it is going in anyway |
