Show coronation OF THE centennial QUEEN by isabelle isabella redd katurd saturday ay evening marked m the official opening centennial celebration eb for san juan county sponsored by the county DUP camp people came from all directions ions to do honor to the acca occasion invocation was offered by karl lyman af after ter which president ella barton offered a word ol of e welcome the first number was a pageant depicting the indians as they app appeared reared at the time of arrival of the first settlers in 1880 with C R christensen as their peacemaker mary jane wilson an original pioneer wrote an interesting article relative to the first who came thru the hole in the rock which was read by bessie bailey A mixed chorus let the mountains shout for joy directed by ruth bailey with maxine frost as accompanist produced the perfect atmosphere for the next feature A beautiful stage setting thrilled the audience as the curtain was raised for the coronation ceremony under a canopy of yellow seated upon a blue satin throne sat betty jensen charming in a white brocaded satin gown entrain her two attendants jaqueline redd blanding and alene redd monticello were beautifully attired in gowns of pink net over pink satin the flower girls wore formals of blue and yellow in keeping with the decoration colors they were judy redd and virginia JJ jameson ameson of la sal nadene neilson of bluff coleen gage horsehead orse head virginia and ileen heen palmer and delmar burtenshaw of blanding and marietta barton of monticello the crown bearer was norman jones of blanding i in n a few well chosen words D john rogers of blanding placed the crown upon the head of the queen and from that po ment she reigned supreme over the festivities of the evening an old fashioned square da dance n ce directed by mrs vint redd of blanding was the next feature this was followed toy by a spanish dance by virginia adams and margene butt of blanding in unies breathed the atmosphere of the southwest A heel and toe polka and rye waltz directed by louie leouie frost with dancers in 1848 period cos costumes tuines was one of the highlights of the evening this was followed by a novelty dance with six blanding girls in attractive white costumes kumes co the march led iby by the queen and her attendants with violin selections by tom evans and hyrum porter accompanied by beverly alexander climaxed a wonderful program after which social dancing was enjoyed special lighting loaned by M oden proctor added much to the success of the evening which brought together the largest assemblage of san juan ers ever to meet in the auditorium much credit is due the officers of the county DUP camp and those who assisted on this memorable occasion |
