Show student body sends letter to service men the following is a letter that was sent to all local servicemen last month by the high school student body dear serviceman this letter from the monticello high S hool student body is to wish you a merry christmas and to let you know that we are arc still thinking f you we also thought you would like to know some of the school and town news oar school year so far has been very goc good 3 but busy too there have been a lot of activities and everyone has had goad school spirit we decided that we w needed a more complete constitution so wa are trying to write one that will raise the standards stand aids discipline the students and help make our school more united it also states how officers of the school are to be detected elected and how the L lariat staff and yearbook staff are to be organized we are having our first yearbook since 1939 this year the student student council president is writing up the final form of the constitution with the the help of f the class representatives it is nearly c completed mple ted and it looks as though it will be a good one our student body officers for this year were elected by standing vote during the third week r of f school the results were president nt helen klaire redd vice president sanford cox secretary and treasurer elaine johnson student council president tommy editor of lariat rita bailey property manager harold frost advertising manager geo behunin and assembly chairman joyce adams they are c certainly arta doing a fine job the boys and girls teams have played blanding in several fast games of softball and baseball this year although we played hard lu lucH seemed tobe tibe to ti be with our opp o bents and blanding won most gf cf the games we have been practicing some track sports but most of that will be done in the spring mr jensen our coach states that bas netball training will begin at once i and the first game is scheduled i with south emery on dec 8 we have had a lot of successful dances this year the crowds have always been just right and everyone seems to have lots of fun the Hall halloween dance was one of the best given the hall was cleverly decorated and refreshments were sold while Bl andings orchestra furni furnished shed the music another especially fine dance was as the victory dance on nov 10 it brought out the largest crowd of any of them sugar cakes soap ca canned n ned peas beans and pecan I 1 nuts were auctioned off for victory i bonds the sugar sold at the highest price which was worth of bonds the other dances held were the opening school dance and the sophomore frolic the next one will probably be the thanksgiving dance sponsored by the juniors other important activities of the year have been the lyceum and the hayriye hay ride the lyceums are sponsored by the graham lyceum co we have five in line for this year our first was a talk by salom risk author of syrian yankee maybe you have heard off of him or even read his book anyway he gave a very inspiring talk on american citizenship you see he was born in syria and came to america in his teens everyone took an immediate liking to mr I 1 risk and gained valuable information orma from his talk the hayriye was a student body party and was a big success we had three hay wagons and we all piled into them and rode all over town singing school songs after that we had lunch around bonfires in back of the school of course deer season is over 1 now but there were certainly a lot of people here during the time blanding advertised this region as good hunting grounds over the radio and people came fromnes from new york california kansas texas arizona and many other places the vanadium mill is is open again and that means a lot of the old mill people are back and some new oneo too at the present time the tha company is not doing any mining but is just jast processing the supply of ore on hand plans for f r the future are to mine more ore and lun iun the plant indefinitely at the city election on tuesday nov 6 wm win walton was elected mayor and max dalton Art arthur burS S wood joe cooper and ralph robson were svere elected trustees other candidates sandi tandi dates were devaughn jones for mayor and W L black jay nielson Niels NiEl sn cn J wesley norton and john lewis for trustees we are very happy to see that many of our servicemen are discharged and are taking their places in the community some of them who have chosen to remain here for the present are ned jensen who owns half interest in the city mercantile gordon wood who owns half interesting inte baileys cash market and wendell wandell Wc ndell frost who is is farming with his father others who are here but not permanently manent ly settled are ralph robson elmo redd loile loila and max bailey lloyd duckett Duc kelt grant bionson calvin pipkin verl beeson cloyd and eldon John johnson fermin lopez rae redd evan pehrson lyle hyde and donald evans we are
