Show funeral services for jesse bailey ast sst sunday by isabelle isabella redd kneram funeral services for jesse bailey 54 of monticello who died in the hospital at moab march 23 were held in the church sunday with bishop L frank redd officiating the services opened with a mixed quartette 1 I know that my illy redeemer lives invocation by elder D B perkins the quartette then sang cast thy bread upon the waters bishop C E walton was the first speaker he said his acquaintance and alsoc assoc association ath the bailey family dated dated back to the early days of the settlement of bluff nephi bailey father of it a deceased was a very active leiber ber in the C lurch curch and he and his family participated in the building up of san juan county when one of the old time members of the community passes away it is like one of your own family said mr walton jesse bailey had many redeeming qualities which may be mentioned the care ard and consideration he always gave his mother and secondly her he loved cl children ildren and was always kind and thoughtful of them tom evans played a violin solo the end of a perfect day accompanied on the piano by nettie redd bishop redd made closing remarks leaving the thought that every truth embraced in the gospel of christ is one of progress the closing song whispering hope was rendered by ruth and max bailey accompanied on the piano by nettie redd and on the violin by tom evans the closing prayer was offered by F peter jones the body was laid to rest in the local cemetery the grave was dedicated by elder lawrence black the floral offerings and the continued on page f four our FUNERAL SERVICES continued from page 1 large crowd present was evidence of the esteem held for jesse by relatives and a large circle of friends those coming to the funeral from the outside were his sons loyse and vert verl and their wives his brother victor and family alvin bailey arthur H and margaret anderson and mrs vera foy jesse bailey was the son of nephi and annie E mackelprang bailey he was born in monticello january 23 1890 most of his life was spent pioneering in this section he was a man endowed with sound practical judgment and was an outstanding figure in the f field iel d of farming and livestock he was a pioneer farmer in the summit point section one year he won the championship in the united states for the highest yield per acre on a crop of oats he was awarded a cash prize of 1000 and also given a medal by the U S dept of agriculture he spent eight summers working for the forest service counting cattle and making range improvements prove ments he also followed the business of mining for the last three years he was employed by the somerville cattle company giving splendid satisfaction until overtaken by an illness in november from which he could not recover he is survived by two sons vert verl and loyse and four grandchildren an aged mother and six brothers J M julius alvin elmer victor and ralph A and a foster sister mrs thelma corbett |
