Show food production and marketing contest boys and girls who are between 14 and 22 and have two years experience in vegetable gardening are eligible to compete in the wartime food production and marketing contest of the national junior vegetable growers association it was announced today A L stark utah agricultural college hort horticultural cultural specia specialist lisi who is contest content committee chairman for the western region join d with earle parsons jr 20 year old northampton mass president of the association in inviting both farm and town youth to register for the fourth annual competition immediately additional information may be obtained by writing stark at the college le e in logan contestants from this county will compete for a national championship a western regional award avard of or one of the three sectional awards of each from a scholarship fund provided the association by the great atlantic and pacific tea company in addition two 25 war bonds are offered to other outstanding contestants te of the state our association feels that by encouraging boys and girls to study and utilize more efficient methods of producing and marketing vegetables we are helping conserve manpower in a year in which every pound of food is needed parsons said in this contest it is not how big a vegetable grower you are but how good a grower among the winners of last years contest was robert thornley of smithfield winners of the 1944 contest who will be announced in december will be based on grades achieved in studies of a five unit course on production and marketing methods a report on the contestants te vegetable project broj act and a summary of community activities |
