because of the death of her daughter dixie just before they left acthen grand county hospital dixie passed away grace asked me to pinch hit for her so our servicemen service men section will be a bit shy this week our hearts go out in sympathy for the bereaved family at this time I 1 cal eugene with his companion pat E P young of washington had a four day leave irom from their cai camp ap in arizona mr and mrs lynn lyman met them in gallup gallop N M on friday night thomas A jon jons s accompanied by mrs irene H re redd dd and mrs alic eustaff en staff t ccok ok them bad back to gallup on sunday afternoon quite a bit of expense and discomfort were entailed but G gene ene says it was well worth all it cost to get two days particularly christmas day with his wife and an d baby I 1 ahter ter arie ayne 5 lyne redd ensign in the navy says hs is up in the air not the place for a navy man at all but it is just his feelings he hopes to hear soon jast where he is to be stationed he was vas happy however to be permitted to spend christmas with his family mrs ila S johnson left tuesday of last week to be with her husband pat kay johnson who is stationed at buckley fiel field ld colorado on her arrival she learned that kay could have the weekend week end off they rented an in denver which also afforded them a garage they came home spent A christmas loaded their car with dishes and bedding and went back to denver where they expect to be for at least two months steve i black of monticello came home with them and also returned with them sunday its very nice nica for our boys when they can be in the same camp besides kay and steve burk washburn calvin perkins parkins and devon hurst are all at buckley field devon also had the weekend week end off ff and spent christmas day here aith with his bis brothers and sisters his brother parley took him t to monticello where he caught the bus on saturday evening Burdette Shumway rex nielson leonard jacobs and a navajo boy are all together sadly for duane johnson he was separated from them though he is still at farragut the boys write that 49 below zero seems pretty cold as compared with the mild climate of dear old san juan after a two years absence from blanding stewart burnham of the coast guard came home for a four day visit he was accompanied by his very attractive wife who met stewarts family fall for the first time hall thursday night in lion honor of mr and mrs frank barton all married people in the ward were invited musical numbers were rendered by hyrum porter the lyman sisters and the relief society singing mothers talks were given by president joseph Josep hB B harris bishop john D rogers and the missionaries other items of interest were relay races and a bible quiz light refreshments were served mr and mrs barton left for salt lake city monday morning where they will spend a week before going to shiprock new mexico the daughters of the utah pioneers held a most enjoyable christmas party thursday afternoon in the relief society room the lesson letters of historical value 1 was treated by mrs theressa The cessa redd mrs mamie adams rendered leered two beautiful piano piana solos bannie annie laurie and juanita mrs luella rogers told a christmas story the lyman sisters sang a duet A delicious luncheon was served by the officers after which gifts were exchanged saturday night the acacia club had a cleverly arranged white elephant party at the home of mr and mrs alma redd bingo and put and take were played during the evening and a great many I 1 amusing prizes were giver given t A grab I 1 bag of gifts added greatly to the i fun the sunday school christmas program was carried out as outlined in the november juvenile instructor I 1 am sure that every heart was touched by the sweet stories and songs given by old arid and young to bring to our minds again the birth of our lord and savior the official christmas season was opened tuesday night of last week with a well prepared program during the regular MIA period A dancing party and so cial followed A splendid crowd attended the elementary school children were delighted with their various christmas parties wherein each child received a small gift from some school mate as well as a remembrance mem brance from the teacher on christmas eve bishop rogers and mrs marian G nielson president of the relief society made a great many pleasant calls on the sick and homebound home bound of the ward giving christmas cheer and words of encouragement probably one of the best dances of the season was held christmas night following the picture show happy go lucky the two fireside groups met as usual sunday evening after chure usual sunday evening after church the special interest group met at the home of george hurst and the M men and gleaners cleaners Glea ners at the home of laveda black lovely programs in keeping with the season reason were carried out philip hurst president of the stake entertained his board members with their wives at a dinner party sunday each woman was presented with a crocheted hot pad made by mrs phil and each man carried away with him a pair of sox everyone present pronounced the affair a complete success jesse walker who is employed at shiprock N M spent christmas here with his children mrs walker is still in california so it is quite needless to say how happy the young walkers were to have at least one parent with them at this the nicest time of all the year it is good to have almond lyman with us again although he regrets very much having to be released from the army because of ill health mrs almond is at present in portland oregon almond will join her soon they expect to make their home in bland ing ill g in the very near future clyde lyman and david nielson who have been employed in dodge city are here for a few days visit before entering the I 1 armed forces they will report at leavenworth kansas jan 7 flora johnson who has been seriously ill is much improved at this time although shed she is is yet unable to be out A an outstanding event among the many dances and entertainments to be given this holiday week will be the alumni day on december 30 A banquet and program will start at p m followed by two basketball games with san juan high and cortez and dove creek womans comans page uncensored was a one act play presented in the ward hall monday night the drama director of the MIA mrs rene brinkerhoff was in charge following the play was another ward dance with music by darvs orchestra the 11 12 13 14 year old boys and girls had a most enjoyable time at a dancing party given especially ally for them tuesday night they responded very nicel nicely yeto to the teaching of special MIA dances and will look forward to more similar occasions |
