Show THE PASSING OF TIME with this issue the san juan record completes another year of publication and passes another milestone its twenty sixth year of service as a weekly newspaper during this period of time it has been owned and operated by a number of fine men all of whom have contributed of their time and talent and money in order to serve the public had they been successful from a monetary angle one of them would still be in possession of this business although three of them have passed on since disposing ot ol their right of ownership in the spring of 1934 we assumed the responsibility of publication and ownership and at various times have taken full charge of editing and managing the san juan record since the spring ot of 1940 it has been necessary to take over the entire management with the help of two assistants and most of the time with only one A big undertaking der taking but we have enjoyed it and during this time it has been our good fortune to become better acquainted with many of our readers and to become more firmly established in this important county seat although we have passed through troublous times and have been tempted to withdraw irom from the responsibilities which a county newspaper entails we solved a part of our problem recently by issuing a smaller size paper there has been little or no objection to the change as far as we know and we are happy to say that a number of new subscriptions script ions have been received in the past few weeks we therefore have no intention of releasing our hold on this paper rather do we hope to increase the number of pages if advertising and other form of income warrants we bespeak your continued support as we enter upon another year of service and we thank you our local and distant friends who have operated cooperated co in the past if you have taken notice of the advertisements during the past year you will realize that a few local ads and one from blanding have appeared continuously we wish to especially thank the lyman garage of blanding the sitton store C A frost co and ane three cafes in monticello for their generous support ot of these the lyman barage the hyland cafe and the C CA A frost company have not missed a single issue since the beginning of 1940 and if more of this kind of support is forthcoming it will enable us to do our part more easily we also wish to thank all who have paid their subscriptions so promptly and especially you who never need to be reminded a second time As in in the past we shall COnti continue nile to send the paper to students away at school if their family subscription is in good standing the same applies to draftees while they are in army service we do ask however that you notify us promptly of any change of address since it adds to our expense to receive a notice from your post office when you leave a given point all subscribers please take note of this request since we are penalized two cents for each change of address that comes through the post office the moab times independent has discontinued the sending of free papers to students due to the cost entailed by the students failure to send notification of changes of address to our friends everywhere we send greetings of appreciation for your cooperation of the past and that of the future |
