Show the old settler my dear san janners Jaa Jua ners I 1 regret very much that it is beyond my allowance of time to 1 make personal answers to the many letters I 1 receive in friendly comment and appreciation of these messages but be assured I 1 do enjoy them and I 1 would like to make my reaction in individual letters one friend comments en cn one thing and another on some other phase of what I 1 have written but one of the most interesting interest ng matters on which I 1 write to san juan is the splendid future and tha great possibilities of the tha country and naturally when this chasi alias of my effort is noticed I 1 feel more responsive than with anything else I 1 shall not try to quote from all the letters written along any I 1 line nor even to mention the names at this time but I 1 have just received one from wilford frost which desneves de to be repeated for what it may stimulate people to think and possibly to do before it it is is too late to see what might be done he says 1 I have just finished reading your article under date of may ath I 1 have reread re read this article a time or two and I 1 am glad to know that some one else believes as I 1 do owning a ranch on montezuma creek as I 1 do and seeing all the water going to waste as it has done for the past three months and as it will continue to go to waste for a month yet and then to contemplate the water shortage which we will suffer in the months following makes me wonder why steps are not taken to stop this waste and I 1 provide with it for the time of need that we are all dreading this could be put to beneficial use and provide food for people who are or will be in need of the necessities of life giving them work homes and something to eat for the last two months montezuma has been running belly deep to a horse the water going completely to waste while there are at least four excellent reservoir sights in the canyons from which the water could be taken to profitable land you know there is no better land in the U S A than is here in these canyon bottoms 1 I have often thought what a wonderful opportunity this is for enterprising people to make homes and become safely established three times as much water has gone to waste down this creek this spring as monticello ever uses in one year it makes me wish I 1 had bad my youth and strength again so I 1 might preach this doctrine by actions which speak louder than words yours with hope in san juan county as one of the most desirable places in the west albert R lyman |
