Show homemakers BOME MAKERS PAGE marie mane al ogden an interesting item just received from the U of U news bareau bulletin may well take the lead this week since the skinnier suir suin nier term has only just started and it may appeal to some of our readers who have not completed their summer plans THEORY APPLIED A new wrinkle in honie home bononi ei bonom ics acs classes as far as utah is concerned has nade its appearance in the university of utah summer school this year with the i household management house I 1 and the 10 members of its family the house is really a laboratory labo alory in which family living conditions are approximated the principles learned in four years of study in the home economics field are applied directly and girls are given an opportunity to see all the phases of household management students registered in the course live in the house during the six weeks of summer school and take turns being ho hostess stes host ma manager nagel 1 I cook la undress waitress and andl housekeeper schedules are ar arranged in four day shifts so I 1 that each girl spends that period of time in each of ten differently different positions they do all the marketing 1 and buying and meals arel are planned on different income levels the cost of food per person each day varying from 30 to 50 cents at the end of the course girls will evaluate thern themselves selves and other members of the family upon such qualities as contribution to the welfare of others ability to converse neatness promptness resourcefulness and cooperation op qa tion the home living center is a sorority house during the regular session of school and is located across the street from the campus it furnishes living facilities for the ten girls enrolled in the class and for miss marguerite canavan faculty director the course carries three hours of credit and is a suggested requirement for the vocational cat ional homemaking home making teachers certificate it will probably become a regular feature of the curriculum according to miss canavan and has already been adopted by many states as a requirement qui rement the course was presented this summer to meet the demand for it by graduate students in the field of home economics |
