Show opportunities WE ARE MISSING while the rest of the world is en engaging agina in warfare and millions of dollars are bein being spent in preparation for war in neutral countries or for the care of refugees and the injured and helpless victims of the devastating wars what are we doing here in america to prepare for the darker da days ys to come upon our own fair land what a fine thing if we would begin a campaign for I 1 letter better livin living conditions and instead of making implements implement of war to sell to other countries or for our own use and so promote a condition of living for the great army of unemployed which would enable them to become independent citizens instead of dependents on the government through arll relief a agencies oen cies if instead of doling out relief to many who could and should be working the powers that be who sit in control of national affairs and funds had made it possible for those who want to work to receive fair wages and to refuse relief to all others except L the totally disabled persons and those who are too old to do physical work we would not be in iii the plight this country is in today as we take account of the thousands who are drifting about like driftwood on the sands of time much is being written in the newspapers about national defense V and perhaps it has come to the point where we we must prepare for war although we still hold to the opinion that it is far more important that we also prepare for peace in a way that will vill bring about the REAL PEACE to reign for a thousand years as promised in the gospels and now know being preached from the pulpits although little or Tio nothing thing is done to earn such condition of living in the current issue of progressive opinion an editorial calls attention to the regulations set forth by brigham young very early in the history of utah as follows no one shall buy or sell land for all land shall be held in common every man main shall have land measured off to him both in the city and for farming he may have as much as he can till and use if he refuses to till his land it shall be taken from him all wood and timber and water will belong to the community and all other natural resources there will be no monopoly in this valley by any man of any such resources for his own wealth and power any person trying to take greedy advantage of the materials which we must all use for our common welfare will be driven out of this valley nobody will wi ll 11 ever live in luxury in this valley while others starve what a wonderful bondee ful 0 opportunity to set an example to all other states and we wonder why the philosophy set forth was not lived up to throughout the years since the early settlers established themselves in this productive and beautiful state but it is not too late to make new beginning and because in a valley not far from here where a few sturdy souls have battled against great odds to maintain themselves since 1933 coming to this state through divine guidance as did the early mormon settlers we KNOW that a beginning HAS BEEN MADE since the regulations set forth for that little band of pilgrims is not unlike the above and what is more it has been an unwritten ted law that 99 any person taking advantage of the privileges granted there was either forced to leave or left of his own accord only those remained who were willing to abide by the word of their temporary leader to carry out their assignment of work which is slowly but surely gaining in the most positive way toward accomplishment of the greater works ahad would that more people no matter what their re aig hitous tous beliefs may be would take into account the times in which vich we now live and begin similar attempt to pattern aft T r the early teaching and philosophy of brigham young or that practiced by members of the home of truth now it is better to suffer wrong than to do it and happier to de bu sometimes cheated than not to trust not expect reward for a good deed the reward for a good deed is in having done it t |
