| Show THE NEEDY bea before ore roosevelt we just took it for granted in a lazy way that the poor are always with us we knew that many thousands didat have enough to live on decently we gave a little charity ourselves and urged more on the other fellows we had poor houses and we felt sorry for the needy aged the jobless the distressed now roosevelt has made us see that the distressed make a real PROBLEM for us to work out and we are really working at it the federal and state Govern governments mentE are giving scanty old age pensions to scores of millions just as they are helping many millions of the blind the helpless children and the jobless through the social security we have scarcely started on our way but we now realize it is a vital national nation hl problem affecting every one of us and we are making earnest effort to find the answer |
