Show beaver moving fa from rom the la to blues proves successful monticello aug 7 thirty four beavers were transplanted from the east side of the la sal mountains to the blue mountains during the period from july to july the animals were released in two creeks on the east side of the mountains and in one on the west sd several beavers were planted in each location as ars it was thought that they would have a better chance of surviving from an inspection trip back to the site of one of the plantings it was evident that the beavers were making themselves at home as there were fresh willow and quaking asp cuttings some of the streams are rocky and it may be difficult for the animal 3 to build dams that will vill hold water but there are some favorable locations loca ions on all the streams after the beavers have been in the creeks for several years more soil will have apen held back and less carried c r away by flood waters the actual trapping was done by mr jensen of the foet forest service 1 mr christensen of the state game and fish department mr pratt of the soil conservation service and roland foy of la sal the lo 10 laal al sportsmen of monticello helped a great deal by carrying the beavers into streams that could not be reached by car Conditi conditions ors were favora ble le in in the la for trapping as the water was very low the wo work k will be continued 1 until suf sufficient ficie rt beavers have hav e been caught or it becomes too late in tile the season for tra tren nanti panting ng |
