Show worl work K on hig highway hway to be pushed to completion important meeting held last night at moab between members of state road commission and county of officials f A meeting of outstanding importance to san juan and grand counties was held last evening in the county court house at moab and was attended by preston G peterson and mr abbott of the state road commission and district engineer D IF larsen san juan county was represented by chairman ralph A bailey of the th e county counti board of commiss commissioners boners W ervin palmer dave evans geo M palmer noel sitton bill young and karl lyman all ali members of the board of county commissioners ners of grand county were present and a number of other prominent citizens chairman hammond of the state road commission is in a hospital and was unable to attend the purpose of the meeting was to review the road situation in the continued on page 13 WORK ON HIGHWAY continued from first page two counties and to take steps looking to the completion of highway from crescent junction to the colorado line it was stated by members of the state road commission that this is the last major interstate inter state highway to be completed and that it was the intention of the road commission to concentrate upon this highway until it is all improved and oiled the state road budget this year for improvements of roads in grand and san juan counties calls for the expenditure of which is all that the available funds can stand for this year the work budgeted does not include the oiling of the 20 miles of gravel road between la sal junction and peters spring hill we regret to state work on the mile and a half of road south of monticello across the creek will commence within the next six weeks another project scheduled for this year will be between la sal junction and the new improved gravel road extending abent 12 miles this side of moab to consist of reducing grades reducing curves and graveling with the completion of highway san juan county will be brought considerably closer to the outside world both east and northwest and will insure a considerable influx of population and the development of our latent resources |
