Show no news from party causes anxiety were due at lees ferry july fourth but their silence remains unbroken BULLETIN the noon news broadcast today tod ay iy over at salt lake city reports the receipt of a radiogram which states that the party pa arty is safe some distance below cataract canyon and a little more than miles above lees ferry the river from this point on is comparatively ively safe which lifts a load of worry and suspense from the minds of relatives and the public generally there is small chance of inear meeting disaster from now on possibly the most universal topic lc of conversation and speculation in this district is the fate of the colorado river expedition A number of unfounded rumors have been circulated to the effect I 1 that one of the three boats that started from Green river june I 1 I 1 with the six people that made up the expedition had arrived at lees ferry empty this has since been denied another rumor was to the effect that an airplane re from above the canyon located only two boats on the water but apparently this report was unfounded as it does not appear that there has been any use of air planes until now radion station at salt lake city cay broadcast this morning that the through passenger plane service would be deviated in its course somewhat and would follow the course of the river as far as practicable giving the passengers an opportunity to scan the river for signs of the missing expedition H E blake correspondent of the salt lake tribune wrote to that paper yesterday suggesting that the seriousness of the situation and probable plight of the members of the expedition if still alive warranted the sending of an airplane to fly the course of the river and try to locate the craft and the people who possibly were somewhere stranded and unable to proceed or return in the meantime every everyone hereabouts is avid for news of the expedition the speedy disaster that overtook the two denver men who attempted to navigate the river for a comparatively short distance and cost the life of one of them serves to show the seriousness of the hazard as assumed by the expedition |
