Show w ci cit citizens t hens military training camp an opportunity training builds ruggedness good citizenship and arc moes ine and democracy mo cracy this coming summer vill mark the eighteenth anniversary of the citizens military tra ning camps the idea originated in 1913 when major general leonard wood then chief of staff of the army esta filed fil pd d camps at gettysburg pa nd d the movement has steadily gained in favor with passing V years until it has become an im important event in our national life graduates of these early camps formed thi the military training camps association they were men who knew general wood realized he was right and enthused while following his leadership military training camps association the association has C continued to expand until the present day the old spirit still flourishes under the guidance of others who may not have had the advantage of contact with the general utah hon david A smith idaho hon M B yeaman wyoming hon E H walker an and d nevada hon A H marble the above representatives of the association in their respective states are directing arrangements for a successful C M T camp at fort douglas this coming summer other representatives in all the counties are also offering cooperative assistance the san juan county chairman is ervin palmer of blanding anding BI utah and his aide is ralph G robson of monticello youths or parents who may be interested will gladly be instructed by one of the above physical defects discovered by draft the draft disclosed that fifty per cent of the young americans called to the colors had physical defects A large percentage of these defects could have been corrected if discovered in time could not training camp idea be introduced to the youth and thus effect a physical benefit to the nations citizens patriotic americans facing the faes appealed to congress after vs ar and asked for he ent of camps on a national sea scale the training camps plan was incorporated by congress as one of the important features of the national defense act in 1920 president woodrow wilson signed and approved the bill which established the citizens military training camps the first camps were held during 1921 success of the C al T C C M T camps have been a success from their beginning and have proved the good judgment of their founders congress each year has authorized sufficient appropriation to defray the cost of all applicants desiring to attend these camps this year it has provided the funds to ac accommodate at fort douglas a camp comprised of youths these youthful representatives will be au t eged to come from each and dt county of utah eastern nd asada da southern idaho and southwestern wyoming the purpose of the C M T C is to promote american democracy and citizenship and to develop the turn to page 16 column five ZENS MILITARY TRAINING C CAMP A M P continued from fro n page one young men of the country physically mentally and morally camp routine and benefits BeneC its to the parents of the young man who desires to attend do not hesitate to encourage him he will be well cared for under the observing eyes of experienced officers and noncommissioned commissioned non officers he will learn th the meaning of discipline and good citizenship he will develop alertness and self reliance he will return home after a months training a healthier hea thier and stronger individual and better enabled to meet the duties and responsibilities of life and of citizenship zen ship and with a con consciousness piousness of its privileges his perspective will be broadened by the travel and the associations any healthy normal american 0 citizen of good moral charack F between the ages of 17 andrt and years who is able to aspea speak reao and write english and whose ip application is endorsed by a reputable citizen of his community may attend the age limits for men who have had no previous military training are 17 to 24 no obligation for future service in any component of the army of the united states attaches in any way to the attendance at a citizens military training camp there are no obligations except a pledge to the flag and a promise to work for harmony and cornmon common purpose for information on applications write or call on your own state or county representative of the military training camp association or major harold L milman infantry C M T C officer at fort douglas utah applications tio ns should be submitted as a 0 in as possible YM this years camp is to be he held ar from july ath to august ath 1938 |
