| Show shortage HORTAGE OF HORSES AND MULES IN THE U S the horse and mu e association associate n of america has the following fallowing fal lowing to say about the horse and mule situation in the united states 6 we are still sti 1 l short on both horse and mule colts for replacements granting horses an average life vt 15 and mules 18 years we will lose ose by death horses arid and mules in 1936 whereas replacements rising 3 years old figured at baa the colts under 2 years on january 1 1935 amount to only 5 7 Il harse lirse and mules even if none died in 1935 in other words where we have 10 horse colt replacements we should shoud have 16 where we have 11 mule mul bialt replacements we should have 52 so we are short at least jeas horses and mules cz coming 3 years old od this spring as compared with what we need for or bare replacements to step into the place 0 horses and mules to die in 1936 1938 A As a matter of fac fact losses by death will be even greater than indicated because more than a normal number of horses and in mules ules are advanced in age some of this shortage will be bridged over temporarily by working animals days ani and by breaking and working some of cf the larger cots co ts that will be 2 years old this spring but the colt figures show the real shortage in young i animals to be even greater than anticipated especially in mules and there is danger that prices may rise so much on mules as to seriously interfere with trade and brodu production tan breeding will be intensified especially pec ialy ally in mules where protection tion on will be rt retarded added greatly becane c the short shortage of good jackasses jac kasses |
