Show P PERSONAL OPINION by elwyn B lakei lakai DROUTH the weather again looks stormy but even if snow comes in large quantities at this date the banners r who irrigate may find a serious water shortage confronting them it is well known that early snows on the mountain become compact and so melt slowly giving an even flow of irrigation water for use on the irrigated farms snow falling at this time of thel the year does not solidify upon the moun tain side and so melts quickly in the spring it would seem therefore that the farmers who irrigate are f facing acing a serious situation this year as there is very little water stored in the mountains of san juan county the dry farm situation is not ne ney y essa vessa rily so serious as unusual spring t rains or heavy snow from now on will benefit them greatly of course if our open winter continues ar w it ha has s been for many weeks past we of san juan county may expect to suffer the 1 worst drouth ever to strike this pax pail t of the country with normal rains the dry farmer need not worry for fear of a complete crop failure as the heavy snow early in the season I 1 went livent almost entirely into tb the ground i I 1 with very little runoff f |
