Show san S an juan stockmen Stoc kmen hold ho tr important apor ail meeting eating 40 decided on candidates to represent san juan county on advisory board A meeting of the stockmen stoc kmen of son juan county was held in monticello at the county court house tuesday night about fifty cattle and sheep owners were present from all sections of the county the purpose of the meeting was to discuss matters pertaining to the election ot of members of the advisory grazing committee who will be named at an ele election cletion tion to bo be held at moab on july 20 rules to be proposed at the organization meeting prior to the election next saturday were discussed at len lenth length th the situation in district 6 is complicated to a considerable degree because of the fact that there are many transient sheep men in both grand and san juan counties these transients according to rulings made by the grazing department are permitted to vote in their home districts I 1 I 1 and in alf districts where they graze their sheep toi finally the decision was reached to I 1 ask that each county bounty nominate couri members each from the cattle catle and I 1 sheep men and that each county allow transient sheep men to name one representative it 1 their committee if this proposal is is adopted at the moab meeting the number of the committee members will be nineteen instead of fifteen as originally proposed the nominations for committeemen from san juan county resumed resulted in the choosing of J A of indian creek W R young of blanding claud L young of monticello dlo and A J allen alien of la sal for the cattlemen and J M bailey of monticello floyd W nielson of blanding and chas redd of la sil sal for the sheep men these to be sup ported unanimously by the he stoc stockmen kmen of the county it at the elect electon election on to be held in moab saturday july 20 K D williams inspector inso ector of roads and trails division of gave the meeting an outline of the acet up for work under his division ile he stated that as the hoys boys be in camp amp at least two weeks a month in order that the educational program to be carried out shall be interfered with as little as pon poni ible hence all programs for range de velo should take this into ino consideration and should choose projects which could more easily be rel reached ached from r om the headquarters camp in in order to eliminate as far as possible the establishment of fly camps he stated that rodent extermination in in season should be the first of range development develon ment programs outlined for the boys announcing that one rodent extermination project was already under uder way in the blanding area president chas redd of the san juan grazing association suggested d that rodent control and water development were of importance in range rehabilitation the purchasing of as much of the homestead land east of monticello as possible for use as cattle range was also discussed it was believed that morey for this purpose will vill be available scon each grazing district to be in the neighborhood of 1 the inee triz was as unusually quiet considering the divergent interests interest represented A large number of owners excene to vote at the comine coming election at moab rt at which officials high in grazing administration circles are expected to be present |
