| Show BY THE GOVERNOR t STATE OF UTAH A proclamation PR OCL i f on july 24 1847 19 the p ori r i ginial i el band of utah pioneers 1 I emerged from emigrant emigran t C canyon anyon and beheld the valley of the great salt lake for many iny trying weeks they had been wending their theft tortuous mia way across plains over rivers rivers and through friou mountain fitkin passes aver pushing onward toward the promised land which ahey hey hoped to find in the west on that july morningan mornin gas their stalwart leader gazed over the valley toward the great inland sea shimmering in the distance and declared this is the place they realized that their journey was over that here was the spot for which they 1 had been seeking where i they were to build their homes S l and lay the foundation of a great state ilace ince that time it has become the custom here to observe july each year with fitting services and ceremonies and the legislature has set aside that date as a leval leeal holiday in utah it is customary alad also for many native utahna who have moved elsewhere el to return for that day this year the salt lake chamber of commerce is sponsoring a covered CoNi ored wagon days celebration on july 24 25 and 26 special efforts a are re being pu puta e forth t to i indue n duee former return home for the eek of july 19 to 26 and various meetings are being ehg arranged ar for that occasion it h is entirely fitting anspro and proper J p 6 r that at this should be done that th atthe the deeds of te f sturdy men me liand and wamen women who subdued the wilderness maybe impressed more strongly upon us and that we may pay to their memory the tributes of love admiration and respect which as are so justly theirs therefore I 1 george H dern governor of the state of 0 f utah bv the authority ined in me vested do chereb hereby y declare a and nd se set t aside the week of july 19 to 26 1931 as HOME COMING WEEK and hd I 1 request st all utahna to lend their loyal 0 support making a in that at week e aw an outstanding success 1 1 I also u urge aldfo all former r er I 1 elsewhere et titre 0 re turn home 0 e for that t at period er edif if fias possible ios sible for ar them to do apo m and to inai invite their friend 1 neighbors to jour to our state eni ov our hospitality view our marvelous seenia wonders and acquaint them themselves selves further with our natural resources IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF I 1 have hereunto set get my my hand and caused to be affixed the great seal of the state of utah f done st nt the ciri iol salt sail lake lak L I 1 city 1 this day of max mav 1931 george ta H dern governor |
