Show Local spikers shine at Weber Invitational ly ahead of their competition during dur-ing the two-day event, held despite cold, windy and sometimes rainy conditions at Weber State. OGDEN - Though weather conditions con-ditions were not the best either day, some of the local athletes participating par-ticipating in the Weber State Invitational In-vitational Track Meet last weekend still managed great performances. THE BEST came from Woods Cross pole vaulter Dave Brannan, the defending state champion. Brannan broke the state record in the vault with a jump of 159". besting the previous record of I5'6" set by Orem's John Bestor back in 1980. Brannan just missed clearing the bar at 16', but his vault obviously qualified him for the state meet later this spring. His teammate Matt Roat won the mile in Ogden, finishing with a time of 4:29.34, also qualinying him for state. FROM VIEWMONT, Jennifer Johansen broke her school record for the second straight time when she ran the 1600 in a time of 5:43. 1. Teammate Stephanie Spendlove also ran her best time of the season, finishing at 5:46. Bountiful's Sue Cutler qualified in the 2(H) meter dash, finishing with a time of 22.78.
