However, How-ever, we must not let the situation situa-tion master us; we must master it. We Americans have always had the reputation of never being be-ing heaten so badly that we could not rise again and cairy on. We cannot spoil that reputation repu-tation now by failing to take heart in Christmas. The rest of the world is watching us to see if we can "take it." Let us show them we can! We do not need to display tinsel tin-sel and glitter or buy many gifts to show we are carrying on the Christmas tradition. There is no need to give expensive, impractical im-practical presents to prove our feelings are the same as ever. In fact, the wiser person will use his Christmas funds for buy ing stamps and bonds to accomplish accom-plish the real job, and give inexpensive, in-expensive, useful gifts. The commercialism com-mercialism of the Ghristmases gone by may well be forgotten for the more genuine spirit of "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward To-ward Men," which we are fighting fight-ing for. Christmas should mean more to us this year than ever before. be-fore. Our boys are struggling valiantly to preserve the principles princi-ples of freedom and justice which He gave us. We must give them courage and inspiration inspira-tion to win by showing them we have not given up. They are fighting for the ideals of Christmas, Christ-mas, so we must observe Christmas Christ-mas to show them that those ideals still mean everything to us. Let us all keep in our hearts the spirit of Christmas and the determination to win. |
