Show UTAH PIONEER SONS OPEN ENCAMPMENT Sons of Utah Pioneers bcan pouring into Utah today to attend the national encampment which opens at Brighton with a registration registra-tion of delegates at noon. The early arrivals heralded the greatest encampment in SUP history, George Morgan Jr., president of the host chapter in Sugar House, reported. fc S t H 1 1 i?s 1 i R M o ! o ri C ift? ! r., F h-v. &.U-J REAL OXEN, PIONEEK CART In Pioneer Days Parade, this yoke of oxen and genuine Pioneer cart- signally marked Sugar House Centennial 1854-1954 and it will haul Sons of Utah Pioneers at Brighton Encampment this weekend. A huge circus tent, pitched on'. Mt. Millicent flats at Brighton, and the Aspen Rose Lodge, convention con-vention headquarters, will house most of .the activities of the 1954 encampment. Following the registration of delegates, del-egates, a barbecue and a snappy variety show were on the Friday docket, with the chief general business busi-ness session being scheduled Saturday Sat-urday at which time officers will be elected. Past officers, too, will be signally honored Saturday night. An old firearms shooting contest, horseshoes and other outdoor sports will be conducted, with keen competition com-petition being promised among the delegates from the various chapters. chap-ters. Ray Ohms state champion of the horseshoe pitching contest, will present an exhibition in the sport program. Blrs. Elwood Winters will show to the women encampment vis itors a series of pioneer slides and pictures to help entertain them, and Mrs Arthur L. Beeley will demonstrate early Pioneer arts and crafts, including weaving weav-ing spinning and carding, candle making and other interesting subjects. The Virginia Tanner dancers, talented and widely known, will headline the gigantic vaudeville and entertainment program Saturday Satur-day night. Following Sunday's devotional services in the Big Tent in the morning, the Sons of Utah Pioneers will adjourn to the Horace A. Sor-ensen Sor-ensen estate at 3000 Connor street, where they will be conducted through the SUP Museum, a rare collection of pioneer relics. Members of the Sugar House chapter will serve as guides and escorts on the tour through the museum. |
