Show S. H. CHAMBER ELECTS TRIO TO DIRECTORATE i ihree new directors were elected elect-ed to the Sugar House chamber board Wednesday noon. A president will be elected and committee assignments will be the order of business of the directorate at its first meeting two weeks hence. L. L. Halverson, manager of Keith O'Brien's in Sugar House; Richard Foreman, Operator of Southeast Family Shoe store, and Joseph Aquila, Sugar House manager man-ager of Woolworth's, were named to the directorate. Vernon Mackay, president, officiated. of-ficiated. The new men, together "with hold-overs S. Morgan Sorensen, Steven Richards, John C. Barnes and President Mackay form the seven man executive board. One of its members will be named pres4 ident, and each one will be named to chairman one of the seven major committees of the cham- 1 ber. D. James Cannon is executive secretary. This week's election was spirited with a champion for each candidate candi-date extolling their virtues prior to the balloting. D. H. Whittenburg, chairman of the Utah road commission, assured the chamber the widening of 21st South between 11th and 13th East will begin at the break of spring. Widening of US 40 east of Sugar House in Parley's Canyon will not be entertained by the commission before next summer; the chairman said. Heavy truck traffic on 21st South street was discussed and the chairman suggested the chamber work in close harmony with the Utah Motor Transport and law enforcement en-forcement agencies in eliminating and abating certain nuisances. Whittenburg said the program of re-alignment of the pedestrian lanes on 21st South would be undertaken. |
