Show S. L COMMISSIONER PLEDGES ACTION ON PRISON PARK Salt Lake City Parks Commissioner Commis-sioner L. C. Romney declared this wek he will summon into conference confer-ence next week the five other members of the committee named to administer the work on the old prison site. At the same time of next week's meeting. Commissioner Romney said he would move to have the seventh member named to the committee. Dormant and inactive these past four years, the old prison property has been bought from the state by the city and county, and has been dedicated to public use. It has been proposed that 60 to 70 acres of the tract be turned over to Sons of Utah Pioners and other civic organizations to construct con-struct a Mormon Pioneer Village and a tourist orientation center. A public high school has already been started in construction on 25 acres of the property. Neither commission, until recently, recent-ly, has done anything concrete to start work on the project. However, Commissioner Romney one of the six named to the committee said he will move for some action at once, that he'll push for appointment of a seventh sev-enth member and will make recommendations rec-ommendations in the 1956 budget for monies to defray the city's share of the upkeep. |
