Show : m (a i js: Tflney Keep-In All Togettlhieir By JUDY JENSEN DAVIS COUNTY -- Secretaries fronvall over the county will be remembered by their grateful bosses bos-ses on their special day tomorrow. If, in fact, secretaries' function as they are portrayed in the movies it makes you wonder just who'll be ordering the remembrances. WEBSTER defines a secretary as a "person employed to handle correspondence, keep files and do clerical work for an individual or company." According to local secretaries sec-retaries and their bosses that's just the tip of the iceberg. Many employers em-ployers credit the smooth operation opera-tion of the entire business to their tireless secretaries. Local employers agree they are grateful that a special day has been set aside to honor the secretaries "or," as one said, "somehow the time just slips by and you forget." It's hard to remember those things without a good secretary to remind you. ACCORDING TO Cindy Lewis, Public Relations Manager of the Professional Secretaries Association Associa-tion in Kansas City, Mo., Secretaries Secretar-ies week was originally proclaimed proc-laimed in June 1952. In 1955 it was changed to the last week in April, with Wednesday of that week being the specific day set aside to honor secretaries. In 1980 it was changed from National Secretaries Week to Professional Secretaries Week and that was when employers em-ployers began to take more notice of the event. George Winquist, manager of Brown Floral said it has become a major florists event in the past three or four years. He said once one secretary in an office receives flowers the "pressure is on for the other bosses." Winquist said they have participated with several radio stations in promotions to honor secretaries in the past. The stations will do on the spot flower deliveries to secretaries whose bosses have submitted their names as outstanding secretaries. He said they ran into some unexpected problems last year when one of the women refused the flowers stating she was "not just a secretary but an administrative assistant." Winquist Win-quist said he works with "many gals who bail me out daily. I don't think it matters what you call them as long as you show you appreciate them." SO TO those of you who are "just" secretaries, (there hasn't been an administrative assistant's week proclaimed yet), get ready for tomorrow's surprise. Remember Remem-ber if you don't have something by about 4:30, a good secretary always al-ways takes care of those details. |
