Show Utah State Fair Music Contest The Utah State fair Music Contests Con-tests are scheduled to take place at the Fair Grounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 18 and 19. As usual the competition is in five categories; voice, piano, string instruments and orchestral wind instruments and composition. The competition for voice and piano pi-ano will be on Tuesday with the intermediate classification being judged in the morning and the advanced ad-vanced classification in the afternoon. after-noon. The String and wind instrument instru-ment competition will be held on Wednesday following the same order. Any one up to seventeen years old may enter the intermediate classification which offers cash prizes of $15.00 and $10.00 for first and second place winners in each category. The advanced classification is open to any one from 16 to 23 years of age inclusive. in-clusive. The prizes for this classification classi-fication include cash prizes of $25.00 and $20.00 for first and second sec-ond place in each category. In addition each first place winner in the advanced section will receive his choice of a full tuition scholarship scholar-ship from the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, or the Utah State Agricultural College. The Utah Symphony offers a season ticket to the Symphony concerts con-certs to each, and Maurice Abrav-enel Abrav-enel the director of the orchestra will audition the first place winners win-ners for an appearance at a Utah Symphony Orchestra Concert. An outstanding panel of judges has been chosen for this year's contest. con-test. Carl Fuerstner, pianist from the Brigham Young University, who is esteemed throughout America for his excellence as an accompanist, and as a concert pianist. pi-anist. Alexander Schreiner, Tabernacle Taber-nacle Organist with a world wide reputation, and Albert Shepherd formerly of Salt Lake now residing in Phoenix, Arizona, who has been recognized for years as the West's most outstanding teacher of violin. The judging will be conducted differently dif-ferently this year. The panel has been chosen for their overall musicianship and they will sit as a panel for all the performers. They will submit their decision by secret ballot. There will be no ties awarded this year. Mr. A. Walter Kramer, newly retired director of the Galaxy Music Corporation in New York has consented to act as judge of the compositions. Each contestant must file a formal entry blank with the Utah State Fair. The entries for the composition contest must be in by August 25, 1956, and the entries for the remainder of the contest must be in by September 10.
