Show Palmer in Address To U Grads Dr. J. Richard Palmer, president of Westminster College delivered the baccalaureate address at the University of Utah Sunday evening, eve-ning, using as his subject, "Five Smooth Stones." Using as a parable, the story of David and Goliath, he reviewed the famous Biblical battle in which the small David defeated the giant Goliath using only a sling and "five smooth stones" as his weapon. Dr. Palmer told the 1196 seniors and graduate students, the five smooth stones which must be carried by today's young people in order to win the battle of life are, self-confidence, frank acceptance of one's self, ability to earn the confidence of others, unselfish devotion to a cause greater than self, faith in God. "There are countless thousands of jobs which must be done for which there is no adequate recompense re-compense except the satisfaction in the heart of the donor that he has contributed something of his own life to a cause beyond self," Dr. Palmer said. "Perhaps the real answer to security and inner peace will be discovered to be the result not of national wealth or armed power, but within the sure knowledge that man's only real lasting security se-curity lies within a meaningful relationship re-lationship with his Creator." |
