Show City , SEE -SAW V' 11, ;,ir, there's a move afoot by a few of the merchants in the Sugar House shopping center cen-ter to buy a traffic semaphore o' two themselves. They'd of course put the city lo shame, for Commissioner Lyle H. Nicholcs lias said it will be next yi ar bcfoie anything can be bud-peittl bud-peittl for such a light on Highland High-land Drive and Simpson and Thirteenth Thir-teenth Kant and Simpson. But that traffic semaphore is a must, and sma t merchants !:ncw ils installation means safe ingress and egress to and from their center for their customers. The press of Christmas shopping end its attendant traffic and parking park-ing loads have focused the attention at-tention of the cily on the new renter and the chief arteries getting get-ting in and out of there. Other Sugar House business folk took the bit in their teeth : e-rently e-rently when they pledged $15,000 toward the completion of the widening of McClelland street at 21st South. So it is not unlikely that these wide awake business folk in the new shopping center might well see fit to put a little of their own money out to aid and abet the flow of traffic in'o and. oiu of their area. Commissioner Nicholes has drawn an unwitting chuckle or two out Sugar House way the past few weeks. Although professing not to care about "what any weekly says'' about him, the commissioner has all but busted a blood vessel a time or tv o to get -hold of The News Bulletin, carrying some relatively rel-atively unimpo tant items about him. He even had some cily employes hurry out, procure and deliver to him post haste a couple or three issues. If the commissioner really is interested in the paper, he can have it for $2.50 per year or $4 for the remainder of his two year te m. And if he thinks that is too expensive, ex-pensive, just for fun we'll try to promote him a subscription and mail it to him direct . thereby saving taxpayers' money and curbing curb-ing the necessity of Commissioner Nicholes sending personal emmi-saries, emmi-saries, employed by the city, on such trivial business. |
