Show SUGAR HOUSE POLICE FORCE REACHES 13-MAH STRENGTH The Sugar House police force has 13 men, Lieutenant G. M. Hopkins, officer in charge, reported this week. Sergeant H. I. Milligan, a veteran vet-eran of 15 or 16 years on the force, has been assigned to duty here, Hopkins said. Roy Brewerton, retired police- man, has been given part time duty in Sugar House, the lieutenant lieuten-ant said, and the regular cample-ment cample-ment of 11 offiicers is intact. Only last week the Sugar House chamber of commerce requested re-quested that the area be given precinct status, with a captain in charge and answerable directly direct-ly to the chief of police. Lt. Hopkins said he has requested request-ed at least 20 men oh his Sugar House staff, serving 55,000 people in southeast Salt Lake. He added that "those people should know where to go for advice ad-vice about law and questions only a policeman can answer." Further, he said, there will be someone on duty in the Sugar House station at least 10 hours a day, and when he gets one more man, he will be able to keep the station open 13. hours a day. Meanwhile, the owners of the property on which the station is situated have served notice that the police must find other quarters quar-ters by April 1, inasmuch as the owners, the Rockwood Furniture company, plan to remodel their store and utilize the space in the renovation. |
