Show to the east of the store. The handsome building's exterior exter-ior walls are buff textured terra cotta, with verde antique marble terrazzo below the marquee. Entrances En-trances are trimmed with white metal, with terrazzo flower boxes at the 11th East and 21st South street entrances. Decorative painting finishes the interior walls. The entire second and mezzanine floors are carpeted. carpet-ed. Interior fixtures are of walnut, wal-nut, with new-type, easy-selection displays. Full view of' the entire main floor of the store from the street is permitted by large vista-vision windows. Glare-free flurescent and inca-descent inca-descent lighting is i n s t a 1 le d throughout, with strategically placed spotlights to highlight the points of interest. The entire store will be air-conditioned, with the help of water from a nearby 500-foot well. There is also an electric precipatron, which cleanses all air as it enters the building. The building has an Otis elevator. Departments on the main floor include: jewelry, neckwear, handkerchiefs, hand-kerchiefs, cosmetics, blouses, anklets, ank-lets, handbags, hosiery, gloves, lingerie, corsets and bras, gift shop, greeting cards, men's and boys'. On the loWer sales floor are: curtains, domestics, piece goods, and notions; on the mezzanine: mezzan-ine: sportswear, ladies shoes, children's chil-dren's shoes, and men's shoes; and on the second floor: dresses, coats, suits, juniors, cotton dresses robes, teenage, girls, infants, millinery, mil-linery, lamps, mirrors, pictures, photo studio, record bar, luggage, and small appliances. Kurt Helstaeder, Grand Rapids, Mich., nationally known department depart-ment store designer, planned the store layout. Clifford Evans is architect. Cannon Construction Company is the builder. The. store will employ 210 persons. per-sons. It is "reached by buses No. 8 (11th East), 15, (East Mill Creek), and 16 (Holladay). Ice Cream Always have ice cream mixtures prepared and thoroughly cooled be-I be-I fore putting in freezer or refrigerator. KEITH O'BRIEN GRAND OPENING WEDS. The modernistic new Keith O'Brien store in Sugar House will be ceremoniously opened at noon Wednesday, W. P. Dunn, president, said this week. The store is part of a million dollar development on the southeast south-east corner of 21st South and 11th East street. "Of course, Keith O'Brien will continue to operate its downtown store," Mr. Dunn said. For the grand opening the Sugar Su-gar House store will be open from noon to 9 p. m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Thereafter, regular Sugar House store hours will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Wednes-days, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and from noon until 9 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays. L. L. Halversen is manager of the Sugar House store. Promptly at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 19, Governor J. Bracken Lee will take scissors in hand and cut the ribbon stretched across the main entrance of Keith O'Brien in Sugar House, thus officially opening the store for business. Salt Lake City Mayor Earl J. Glade, long time Sugar House resident res-ident and booster, will be on hand to participate in the festivities. Chamber of Commerce President V. W. Mackay will represent the merchants of the 'city within a city' at the opening. After the ribbon has been cut, all participating officials will be shown through the new establishment establish-ment by L. L. Halversen, store manager. Representing the Mclntyre Investment In-vestment Co., owners of Mclntyre Center, will be Mrs. William H. Mclntyre. Mrs. Fern Smoot Hansen, granddaughter grand-daughter of famous "Ma" Smoot, who gave Sugar House its name, will make the first purchase in the new store. On Tuesday afternoon, after-noon, she will be escorted into the store by L. L. Halversen and purchase a hand bag. Special price on the handbag marked for the first purchase will be five cents. Mrs. Hansen's grandfather, grand-father, Abram O. Smoot, was first bishop of Sugar House LDS ward, organized April 23, 1854. The new Sugar House KOB building contains 26,000 feet of floor space on four levels. There are three entrances. One is on the southeast corner of 11th East and 21st South streets, to the main floor. Another, onto the mezzanine, enters at 21st South street; a third entrance is from the parking area to the rear of the mezzanine. Accomodations for 400 cars are provided at the parking facilities |
