Show 1951 Turkey Crop Is Ready For Fall Market The 1951 turkey crop is already al-ready on the market and this year for the first time fresh turkey will be available for more than a five month period, according ac-cording to George F. Rudd, poultry poul-try manager for the Utah Poultry Poul-try and Farmers Cooperative. Fresh turkey made its appearance appear-ance last month,' three months before Thanksgiving, and will be available at least two months after Thanksgiving, according to Mr. Rudd. He points out that thousands of small, white Beltsville turkeys tur-keys have been grown in Utah this season and have been on the market for several weeks. The larger turkeys including the rich flavored, broad-breasted turkeys tur-keys for which Utah is becoming becom-ing so well known, are just going to the processing plants. At the start of this year turkey tur-key producers planned only about a one per cent increase in production over the 1,662,000 turkeys raised last year. But late hatchings have resulted in a 30 increase, according to Department of Agriculture figures. fig-ures. Many of these late turkeys won't reach the market until the latter part of January. |
