Show Gable and Garson Tn Hit at Centre After three and a half -years on the war fronts, Clark Gable returns to the screen in "Adventure," "Adven-ture," opening today at the Centre Cen-tre in a role tailor-made for his talents. Making the event even more auspicious is. the fact that in the new drama he is co-starred for the first time with Greer Garson. It is hardly necessary to add that it is an inspired teaming. team-ing. In a story as adventurous as its title, with its fast action ranging rang-ing from South American ports to San TYancisco and Reno, Gable Ga-ble is seen as the hiard-drink-' ing, hard-fighting Harry Batter-son, Batter-son, bo'sun of a Merchant Mar- ine freighter.. Following a shipwreck, ship-wreck, he lands in San Francisco Fran-cisco on a big shore leave and here meets Miss Qarson, playing Kmily, a young librarian who fails to be awed by his toughness. tough-ness. Patterson makes up his mind to prove his prowess to this skeptical young woman, the result re-sult is a whirlwind courtship at a little farmhouse of Emily's and an overnight marriage. In the sober so-ber light of the morning after, Emily discovers her new husband hus-band making preparations for another trip on his freighter and realizes that she faces the empty life of a sailor's wife. This bleak outlook almost causes the impetuous impe-tuous mariage to go on the rocks, but a surprise ending brings a satisfactory solution to the prob- lem. |
