Show Summer School At Irving High Opens Monday; 200 Enroll School Bells, silent for a week, will ring again starting Monday, June 16, when summer schools throughout the city open for 6-week courses. Irving High school reports an attendance record of over 200 students already signed up for the summer sessions. According Accord-ing to Mr. Henry B. Tanner, principal of summer schools courses ranging from 4th through 8th grade 'subjects are being offered. High school subjects will be taught, also, for those who are in- terested. For the first time in the history hist-ory of the summer school, shop work is being offered with a full-time shop instructor in charge. Mr. Tanner said that if the demand is great enough shop courses will be offered every ev-ery year. Included in these courses will be instruction in leather, plastics, metal and wood work. Another course which has been enthusiastically received is music. A full-time musical program pro-gram has been scheduled with two instructors available. Instruction In-struction in beginning and advanced ad-vanced orchestra will be given, it was announced. In promoting the cultural arts in the summer program, Mr. Tanner further announced that an instructor would be added to the teaching starf if the Interest is great enough. A typing course is not being offered this year. However, if enough summer studentis desire this course, one may be added. Eight qualified teachers will comprise the teaching staff at Irving for the stimmer season. They are: Mr. Albert Persch, mathematics (high school); Mr. George Archibald, english and social studies; Mr. Edwin M. Bronjson, 7th and 8th grade; Mr. Russell H. Goodman, 6th grade; Miss Barbara Walters, 5th grade; Mr. Vernon J. LeeMaster, 4th grade; Mr. Greeley Timothy, Shop (leather, plastic, wood); and Mr. Wallace Martin, instrumental instru-mental music. The summer school progrm is under the direction of Dr. M. Lynn Bennion, superintendent of schools. Ernest M. Hanjson is the assistant superintendent in charge of summer schools. Registration fee for the six-week six-week course is S10.00. Summer students may enroll for any of I the courses at any time today and from 8 to 12 noon Saturday, j School will begin Monday morn-I morn-I ing. |
