This is a self-supporting publication pub-lication in every respect. witjtt?:V's MESSAGE To The Inmate Body: About two months ago, upon my arrival at "Sugar House," I saw conditions which were not pleasant. I saw lack of initiative, initia-tive, men wandering around without purpose, evidence of filth, lack of repair, and I could go on and on. You fellows know what I am talking about you saw it too. Today, thanks to you men, there is some Improvement, and we have received some very fine compliments on what has been accomplished so far, and on our plans for the future: We know that conditions are not too good, but we are constantly trying try-ing to improve them; that's what you want. Looking forward to the new place some of you will help dedicate it others of you wot't be here. We can see the ultimate ulti-mate in what a penitentiary should be. We can see a prV gram of education, recreatioV and work which will help all of you. How much will depend on how fully you enter into any phase. will let you in on more of the Later on, as plans unfold, 1 details. Severson CCLIXARY DEPARTMENT As the year of lfM!) slowly draws to a close the prison bakery bak-ery releases the following figures: fig-ures: Bread, 2 lbs., 4 oz 34,000 Pastry 4,000 Sweet Dough LOfiO-y"" The six men that are emplo.A ed in the bakery have been on ' the same job since they first entered the institution, and despite de-spite the fact that many of the men never worked in a bakery before, they will leave here witn henchmen's training and be able to secure employment ir, almost any outside bakery. The type of bread produced is of the straight dough standard mix, scoring 80, which is very high for institution bread. The employes cf the bakery wish to thank the following departments de-partments for their cooperation: The Laundry, Tailor Shop, Carpenter Car-penter Shop. Educational Department, De-partment, and the Tin Shot). |
